I'm out of here

The holidays are finally over and we are into another January. It has been pretty cold here in the Northeast. Of course that is not that unusual, it is winter. Wouldn't you know we are going to have a big warm up here.
I had decided last month to take a small vacation since the guys are taking most of the month off. I figured I would go see my mom in Florida. She lives down there during the winters now. Besides the Pittsburgh Penguins, who are my favorite team are playing the Lighting in Tampa on thursday.
My nephew is going to travel with me and will be attending his first NHL game. He is more of a baseball and basketball fan. I think he will become more of a hockey fan once he has been to a game.
Anyway I got a call from the bands management on Friday. It seems there is some sort of a concert for them in NYC on Jan 13. Where and when I have no idea, I should know more tomorrow. The guys will be on Regis and Kelly the next day. I am going to be flying back on Saturday from Tampa. So now I am trying to figure out what to do about this show and getting back to New York. I will actually be flying through there on that day, but with my nephew traveling with me I will probably return home and then fly back the next day. I could send him on home, he is 17. It's just a hassle rearranging flights.
I wasn't planning on doing any shows this month, but hey I will take the pay.
Oh yea

PENS NEW HOME

No... not Kansas City. They are going to remain in Pittsburgh for the next 30 years. An agreement was announced today on the new arena which should open in time for the 2009-10 NHL season.
This is a rendering of the new arena.
Just a couple weeks left of the regular season and playoff fever is in effect.
The NHL playoffs will be in full swing once the tour starts. So if you come to a show and see someone working around the stage in a Penguins shirt that will be me.
I wonder if I can get John to wear a Crosby or Staal jersey on stage. Doubtful since he's a Kings fan.

I'm so stressed
A little over a month from now I will be back on the road. I'm so looking forward to getting back out. I must say I miss it.
I have spent the time at home trying to stay warm and shoveling lots of snow. Also watching and following my favorite hockey team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. I have been a fan since the late 80's, so don't call me a bandwagon fan.
Word is that today is "D Day" for the decision on the Pens and the new arena in Pittsburgh. The meeting should be going on as I type. Hopefully it will work out and the team will stay and not move to Kansas City or somewhere else. I have been thinking about it all day.
Oh yea, getting back to the Five For Fighting tour. The date in Norfolk, Virginia has been cancelled. I don't know why. I just received an updated schedule two day ago and it was still on there. There has been a date added Louisville, Kentucky in it's place the day before.
I may be bringing out a small lighting package with us. I have some inquires in to some companies on renting. We usually use the in house production for the shows. Which we will do on this tour, but management wants me to add something to it.
If I had the budget we would carry a complete lighting rig.

Penguins....stay put?
The stories continue to come out of western Pennsylvania that the Pittsburgh Penguins are going to stay put. There was another news report in the
Tribune-Review. I know, I don't live there but I am a fan of the team and would hate to see them move.
I'm also a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team. They nearly moved some years ago before they got their new stadium.
Hopefully the announcement on Pens will come in the next couple of days.
