What is that ringing in my ears.....
After all these years, like most people involved in live music, my hearing isn't what it was. I wear ear plugs but I still have a slight buzzing.
Last night I had a dream the phone was ringing. No wait...it was ringing. I'm barely awake and think I'm in a hotel. I look at the clock it's 4:37am. I then realize I'm actually at home.
I get up thinking it must be a family emergency. I have a grandmother who just turned 100 years old this past Thursday. So I wake up thinking the worst. I check the caller ID, "unknown caller".
I check the voice mail and the person says call them back and leave their number. No name mind you and I don't recognize the voice. I have no idea who this is.
Ok, when I'm on the road it is not uncommon to get that late night call. It's usually a musician who went out and got themselves in a fight or something. Yes it has happened more times than I can remember. I've even had to take someone to the hospital because of it.
I won't mention the band but on one occasion I was awoken roughly around the same time as last night. One of the bands guitar players was hanging out with some people after a show. We had a very early morning flight. The guy was extremely drunk when he came back to the hotel and was also badly beaten. His tongue was split in half the length of it.
Fortunately there was a hospital a few blocks from the hotel. He had sustained a concussion. We got him patched up and were able to make the flight.
Do to the injuries we had to cancel a bunch of shows.
It's no wonder I hate the phone.
lalalala.........PeeWee sings........
I like cheap and yes free music. Over the years I've gotten so many CD's from bands I've worked with and from record labels.
Yes before you ask I do buy CD in the store from time to time.
I came across
this site a couple months ago. Kind of cool and an easy way to get really cheap CD's.
Here is a partial list of what I'm have on my want list. I own many of these now, but in vinyl form. Some of you may remember those things..records....lp's....you know.
Speaking of the 80's. I see that Adult Swim is showing the old Pee Wee Playhouse episodes. lalalalalalalala......haha
It happened again........or did it
I just wanted to make a quick post
I have been waiting on several responses for tour positions. I finally heard back on one the other day. I did not get the job. It was down to three others and me. I wasn’t surprised, just a feeling I had. It would have been a good gig especially the pay.
So I wait on another, which I expect to have an answer by the end of the week.
Also I mentioned awhile back that
Five For Fighting would be releasing a new CD in a few weeks on August 1. The current single is available for download from Apples iTunes store. I have worked for John and the band in the past and hopefully again at some point up coming. No tour is scheduled that I have heard. You can expect to see them doing the late night TV circut around the time of the CD release.
Hopefully a tour will follow.
Six degrees of.........no not Kevin Bacon
Let me start this post by saying that I hate reality TV. I just think it’s lame. Most of them are scripted to some point. Bring back sitcoms…please.
Well CBS is into a second season of their show to rival American Idol.
Rock Star: Supernova is what they are calling this year’s show. In case you haven’t heard about it this year. The group features Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), Jason Newsted (Voi Vod, ex-Metallica) and Gilby Clarke (ex-Guns N Roses). The idea of the show is to find a lead singer for a new “super group”.
I should also mention that Butch Walker is producing the album, which I guess they have already begun to record.
Now I don’t know the reason for these guys doing this. Oh…wait…they are musicians. It’s about exposure and money. I can forgive them. That is why I work in the business…well the money part. No, just busting balls, if it is a “real” band great I will be interested to hear the songs. They are all talented guys.
Question, when do they plan to tour. My guess would be sometime in early 2007. Tommy has Motley Crue shows this fall touring with Aerosmith. Jason is in so many bands and projects he will have little trouble juggling the project. Gilby last put out a solo record about 4 years ago I think so his schedule is a little free. (Sarcasm in case you missed it.)
Getting back to Butch Walker. He is producing, well why not have him also sing. The guy has been a solo artist and fronted several major label bands over the years. Just a thought here but who's listening.
I want to say it is nice to see
Nate Morton playing drums for the house band again this year. I know Nate from when he played with POE and Vanessa Carlton. He is an excellent rock drummer.
Yes, I admit I saw some of last season with INXS. I happened to see one of the singers and recognized him, as well as seeing Nate on the show. Marty Casey and his band Lovehammer had opened for a band I was touring with a year or so before. Marty was the runner up last season.
It’s funny Marty and I had a long conversation after the show that night about the industry and where his band was going in their career.
I really need to stay in touch with these people more….
Resumes........and fireworks
I have several resumes out to management companies. Things are progressing and I’m up for a couple of tours. It’s interesting how it’s feast or famine when it comes to these things.
Now nothing could pan out, which has been the case for several months. I’ve been working at home so the bills are paid but not much more. I really miss the road and doing shows.
One of these tours is a new artist that features some well-known names. I won’t mention whom until I know if I get the gig or not. Let me just say it could end up being a very good tour. Besides the money is pretty good. That is always a plus.
On a different topic I just wanted to wish a safe and happy 4th of July to everyone here in the United States. We all know that people always do something stupid on this holiday. So my suggestions don’t mix fireworks and beer.
